Located in downtown Madison, Park Street Gas Station & Convenience Store serves a steady flow of commuters, neighborhood residents, and visitors throughout the day. High customer traffic created the perfect opportunity for a destination beer cave, but the urban location meant available space was at a premium. Every design decision had to maximize merchandising without sacrificing customer flow.
Rather than placing the walk-in against multiple walls, the cooler was strategically positioned to expose two sides to the sales floor. This layout created merchandising opportunities that wouldn’t have been possible with a traditional installation, allowing customers to access refrigerated beverages from multiple aisles while still providing an inviting entrance into the beer cave itself.
Leer designed a custom walk-in cooler measuring 16′ 4½” × 8′ 8″ × 8′ 2″ using 4.25-inch Soft Rail panels. One side of the cooler features a centrally located glass walk-in door flanked by two runs of two glass reach-in doors, creating an impressive customer-facing display. Around the corner, an additional run of two glass reach-in doors expands the refrigerated merchandising space, giving the store three separate reach-in displays surrounding a dedicated beer cave.
Finished with a modern 26-gauge black stucco-embossed exterior and durable 26-gauge stucco-embossed galvanized steel interior, the floorless cooler utilizes a vinyl screed for a clean installation that integrates seamlessly into the retail space.
Projects like this demonstrate how custom refrigeration can turn space constraints into merchandising opportunities. By designing around the building instead of forcing a standard layout, Leer helps convenience stores maximize product visibility, improve customer access, and create beer caves that drive both traffic and beverage sales.
