As Badger Prairie Needs Network continued its mission of providing food to communities in need, the organization recognized the need for additional refrigerated and frozen storage within its warehouse. Expanding cold storage capacity would allow the team to receive larger deliveries, better manage inventory, and improve the efficiency of distributing perishable food to the people and partner organizations they serve.
To support those goals, Leer designed a custom cooler-freezer combination walk-in that maximized the available warehouse space while creating dedicated environments for refrigerated and frozen products. Measuring 33′ 7½” × 17′ 4″ × 10′ 2″, the installation includes a 17′ 8⅝” cooler and a 14′ 10⅛” freezer, giving warehouse staff the flexibility to organize inventory based on product type and storage requirements.
Rather than incorporating a pass-through between the two rooms, the design features separate 60″ × 90″ buck openings for both the cooler and freezer, each equipped with automatic sliding doors and strip curtains. This configuration improves material flow for warehouse operations while accommodating pallet jacks and other equipment moving inventory throughout the facility.
Constructed with durable 26-gauge stucco-embossed galvanized steel on both the interior and exterior, the floorless walk-in utilizes a vinyl screed for a clean installation. Several custom features were incorporated to meet the demands of a busy warehouse, including bumper rails to protect the walls from electric pallet jack traffic, ceiling hangers to support the large roof span, and custom trim that created a clean transition between the walk-ins and the surrounding warehouse walls.
Projects like this demonstrate how custom warehouse refrigeration goes beyond simply adding cold storage. By tailoring each installation to the customer’s workflow, equipment, and facility, Leer helps food distributors, warehouses, and nonprofit organizations maximize storage capacity while improving operational efficiency and protecting valuable inventory.
